Welcome to our Church
St Mary's church is situated in the middle of the village half way up Church Hill. We have services of varying formality each Sunday. Do try our Hinton Half Hour, coffee before hand and definitely a casual and friendly service of 30 minutes max!!
If you are interested in church history or church architecture, you will be interested in our Easter Sepulchre. There are less than 30 of these in the country. In Tarrant Hinton it is an arched recess in the north wall of the chancel. In the past, from Good Friday to Easter day the crucifix and sacred elements were deposited in the sepulchre in commemoration of Christ's entombment and resurrection. Nowadays, we have a simple wooden cross and candlesticks placed there for our Easter Day service.
Anyone interested in local history? Richard Foley has produced "Tarrant Hinton, Profile of a Dorset Village 1900 - 2015"
The book is sixty four pages of fascinating facts and figures with many old and new photographs and reminiscences of village life. To purchase a copy (£10) contact Richard on 01258 830433 or at Patience Cottage, Tarrant Hinton. All profits go to St Mary's Church, Tarrant Hinton.
